The Metro Line III project, which will connect Cuffe Parade with Seepz via Bandra, will also gobble 75 acres of Aarey Milk Colony in Goregaon. MCGM is in process of providing NOC for cutting of 2298 trees which fall on this land. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approached MCGM (BMC)  Tree Authority who have put up removal notices on several trees. 

MMRDA also clarified that around 220 trees will be relocated where as over 2078 will be transplanted. However similar promises were made by MMRDA for its Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, where many trees were removed. Today there are no proper trees planted where it was promised. So , the transplantation was a farce.

Transplanting is a very resource intensive exercise. It requires cranes for lifting the trees out and labour and excavators to dig holes for transplanting. For the purpose of transplanting all the branches of the tree are cut and only a vertical main trunk is kept, which is then pulled out by tying it to a crane. Why go through all this effort? What for? The tree goes through enormous trauma in the process, which of course can be reduced by providing water and nutrients. 

For the sake of our future generation we have to save the trees and instead ask the goverment to increase the green cover here by planting more , and compensate for the past sins first.

we urge that the plan to cut the trees be scraped altogether and the Metro yard be shifted elsewhere
