I am a proud alumnus of Newcomers High School, a place that not only taught me English but also provided me with a sense of belonging when I first arrived in this country. This institution has been instrumental in shaping my professional life and it continues to play an essential role for thousands of immigrant teenagers.

Newcomers High School is more than just an educational institution. It is a beacon of hope for many young immigrants who arrive in this country with dreams and aspirations, yet face numerous challenges due to language barriers and cultural differences. The school's mission - to provide these students with the necessary tools to succeed - is one that must be preserved.

According to data from the Migration Policy Institute, there were approximately 1.2 million immigrant youth residing in the United States as of 2019. These young people need institutions like Newcomers High School which are dedicated to their unique needs.

We cannot allow changes that would dilute or deviate from this mission or erase its name which symbolizes hope for so many newcomers. We urge those in power not only to preserve the name "Newcomers High School" but also its vital mission.
