The Issue

No one should have to fear that their private medical records could become political weapons. But that’s exactly what’s happening right now.

The federal government has issued sweeping subpoenas demanding confidential medical information about transgender minors from some of the country’s leading gender clinics. These demands aren’t about public health—they’re about politics. And they risk violating one of the most fundamental principles in medicine: patient confidentiality.

Doctors take an oath to do no harm. Forcing them to hand over sensitive records—without the consent of patients or their families—not only undermines trust, it puts vulnerable young people at risk of harassment, outing, and worse.

We’re calling on medical institutions, health associations, and elected officials to stand firm: refuse to comply with invasive subpoenas that violate medical ethics and put transgender youth in danger. Uphold your duty to protect patients, not politics.

This isn’t just about one case. It’s about whether we believe every person—regardless of gender identity—deserves privacy, dignity, and care.
