The Issue

Picture the excitement of a little three-year-old, eyes wide as you return from the mailbox, shining with hope. “Mommy, did I get a book?”.  My own son asks me this every single time. These simple words encapsulate the invaluable joy and educational impact of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in the lives of children. My son and daughter are two of the  countless beneficiaries of this inspiring program, and without it, our book collection would be scant. The current threat of funding cut for the program is a heartbreak waiting to happen for so many vulnerable families struggling to get by.

Imagination Library is a beacon of learning and creativity for children aged 0-5, catering especially to those from low-income households, those who are homeschooled, and those without easy access to a library. The program provides an enviable alternative to digital screens, inviting every child to explore the boundless realm of their imagination with tangible books. It is an established fact that books play a critical role in the cognitive development of early learners by enriching their language skills and critical thinking (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2014).

Removing funding for such an impactful program would undermine access to intellectual growth and imagination for countless young minds. Therefore, it's not just about continuing a program, it's about investing in our children's future and the strengthening of our society.

We urge you to consider this plea, do not deny our children this foundational step in their educational journey. Please, let's stand together for the future of our children, let's uphold the funding for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Sign the petition today.
