It is imperative for the well-being of our communities that the Champaign County Planning and Zoning Department adheres to its current setback rules. We are specifically fighting against a proposed waiver that will allow a 4.99 MW Solar Farm to be located closer than 1.5 miles from an incorporated municipality. Such a waiver would compromise the community's safety and tranquility. Solar energy can potentially be a good source of renewable energy, but industrial sized Solar Farms should be held at the appropriate distances for residential areas. The current setback rules are in place for crucial reasons, including shielding the community from visual impact and preserving the natural environment of our area. We urge the Champaign County Planning and Zoning Department to consider the impact on our communities before proceeding with such decisive measures. Make a stand for the well-being of Champaign County residents (most notably the residents at Spring Lake) by signing this petition opposing the waiver.
