I am reaching out to you all because this is a big issue to me. During exhibition, I have learnt more and more about human rights and how people have died or suffered a lot because of lying, scheming governments. This experience has made me passionate about human rights, and reminded me of the basic principles that should be afforded to everyone around the world which are inalienable which means something cannot be taken away, sold, or given to another person. It is a fixed part of someone or something. People often use it to describe basic human rights like life or freedom. No one should have to live in fear or with the uncertainty that their fundamental human rights can be taken away at any moment. Many people get hurt because their human rights are violated and not listened to which leads to people getting hurt not just physically but mentally, and emotionally.

In the past few weeks, Emily Miller and I (Ava Rose Salvo), have been researching long and hard about human rights, more specifically slavery, civil and cultural rights and how bad of an issue its getting. According to Amnesty International, millions of individuals, regardless of their background, endure violations to their rights including unjust imprisonment, discrimination, and torture. These are not just statistics; they are real lives being affected by systems that fail to protect them.

To bring about meaningful change, we must call up on our governments to prioritise human rights. This involves holding countries accountable for violations and ensuring that international human rights laws are enforced. The United Nations reports that over 100 countries have yet to establish strong mechanisms to protect human rights. It is time for these entities to act, to not only uphold existing laws but to strengthen them and ensure they are adhered to and listened to.
