The Issue
In 17 May 2016 we have sent a committee representing the villages of Mantja, Setlopo, Mofine, Utlwanang, Ditshilo, Dithalong West, Mapetla, Koikoi Crushers, Letlhogoring and Molato o sule to the North West Department of Public Works and Roads. The department officials and the then MEC for the Department Mr Madoda Sambatha set with the committee and discussed our grievances regarding the Road D3545. We have been complaining about the road and sending delegations so the department since 1996 (just after the end of era of Bophutshwana Government).
The conclusion with the then MEC Madoba Sambatha was that:
1. The Road D3545 belongs to the North West Department of Public Works and Roads. Therefore the department accepted the responsibility to upgrade it.
2. In this regard step 1 will be to:
a) Form a steering committe immediately to be part of overseeing the upgrading process. Then the Department will meet with the appointed steering committee within 10 days of appointment by the community leadership. During that meeting a conceptual plan would be received by the committee members conceptualising all the steps that would be followed, then it will be discussed and approved at that meeting.
b) The department will appoint consultants before the end of June 2016 after they have agreed at the first meeting with the steering communittee on the date of the MEC's visit, where he would also announce the budget for the consultants and process of appointing a consultant and the conceptual process to be followed for the designs and final construction of the Road D3545.
Until today, nothing has come out of these commitments and meetings. We therefore, request and call on the current MEC Honourable Gaoage Oageng Molapisi and HoD Mr Moses Ikgopoleng Kgantsi at the North West Department of Public Works and Roads to look into this, and come attend to it ASAP.
