Upgrade to the traffic lights Tavistock Road/Fore street Crossing for Safety
The Issue
As a mother of two living in the Callington area, the safety of my children is always my top priority. Our town's local facilities, the primary school, and park are frequented by families like mine. However, crossing the A388 Tavistock Road at the Fourth Street Junction is a constant safety concern. The absence of a push button on all four corners of this junction makes it extremely dangerous for anyone trying to cross, particularly for children, young people, and the vulnerable.
This junction is a critical point in our community, used by many residents daily. Yet, without a push button system on each corner, residents face uncertainty, anxiety, and unnecessary risk when crossing. As parents, caregivers, and community members, we fear for the safety of our loved ones. It's not just inconvenient; it's potentially hazardous and adds stress to our everyday lives.
Statistics show that properly equipped pedestrian crossings significantly reduce accidents and fatalities. According to the Department for Transport in the UK, modern pedestrian crossings can decrease pedestrian casualties by up to 40%. Implementing a full pelican crossing with push buttons on each corner will ensure that cars stop when pedestrians need to cross, giving everyone a safe and predictable way to navigate this busy road.
We urge the local council and relevant authorities to prioritize the safety of our community by upgrading the existing part pelican crossing to a full pelican crossing with push buttons on every corner of the A388 Tavistock Road/Fore street and leading to Kelly Bray direction intersection. This change will provide peace of mind and safety assurance for hundreds of residents, improving the overall quality of life in Callington.
Your support is vital. Help us create a safer environment for our children and community by signing this petition. Together, we can make a significant impact on road safety in our area.
