The Issue

Southwestern Shoreline has highly walkable neighborhoods with few places to go. As a resident, I dream of the simple joys of taking my children on an evening stroll to grab some ice cream, to relax on a bench while they play, enjoying community spots that offer fun and relaxation without needing to drive miles to get there.

Shoreline Place has every potential to provide just that, but unfortunately, it's currently being transformed into yet another hub for fast-food joints rather than a space that serves our neighborhoods' needs.

Our community desperately craves walkable, high-quality amenities—places that enrich our daily lives and strengthen the sense of community. The upcoming closures of beloved establishments (!) in the Richmond Beach neighborhood further emphasize this need. We’re missing family-friendly facilities like a children's play area or splash pad, unique destination shopping experiences, cozy cafes, delightful ice cream salons, and lively brew pubs that could serve as local gathering spots. At present, we are forced to travel across town or to neighboring cities like Edmonds and North Seattle for these amenities.

Walkable destinations aren't just about convenience; they bring neighborhoods together, foster a thriving community spirit, and provide vital economic support to (local) businesses. By focusing on developing Shoreline Place into a hub that reflects the desires of its residents, we can create a vibrant, welcoming environment that benefits everyone.

It’s time to reimagine Shoreline Place as a destination that genuinely caters to our community. Let's advocate for the transformation we believe in—a space that offers family-oriented, walkable attractions that are not only convenient but essential for our community’s well-being.

Support this cause and urge local developers and city planners to include these much-needed amenities, creating a more balanced and family-friendly Shoreline Place.
