Upgrade our school hall - Davidson kids deserve better

Upgrade our school hall - Davidson kids deserve better
The issue
Every other high school in our electorate of Davidson has had a major upgrade in the past 5 years. Why has our school missed out?
Davidson High School prides itself on our Creative and Performing Arts programs. We have so many incredibly talented students! Our current auditorium is basically a basketball court. Here, we hold graduations, awards nights, school assemblies, music and dance performances. This “multipurpose-centre” has not been upgraded or redesigned since its inception more than 40 years ago.
There are broken louvres, outdated electric heaters on walls, crumbling ceilings, poky toilets with undersized doors – it’s dangerous and embarrassing.
Our school has more than 950 students, but there is so little space for anything once the makeshift stage platform is erected, that only one parent per student can attend any of these events! We simply can’t fit everyone in. Our only alternative for Davidson High School’s annual Season of Performing Arts is to hire out the local theatre at a cost upwards of $18,000, with audience members footing the bill for costly tickets. THIS HAS TO CHANGE.
The Davidson High School Parents and Citizens Association, and the school community, together with local Member for Davidson, Matt Cross MP, is calling on the NSW Government to pay attention to our students’ needs. NOW. We need a major redesign, rethink and refurbishment of our school’s auditorium. Don’t wait for an injury to occur before action is taken to upgrade or rebuild!
