The Issue

Evansdale addition. Our road, narrow enough to require one car to pull onto a shoulder to let the other pass, is a safety hazard and a source of unnecessary stress for all those who use it daily. It does not meet the standard road width established by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), which explicitly states that a two-lane road should be no less than 9 feet wide per lane. Due to the restricted size of our street, two vehicles cannot travel simultaneously without one being forced onto the shoulder which is simply dirt, proving to be detrimental to both safety and vehicle health.

This dire situation affects everyone in our community, from parents ferrying their children to school, to commuters heading to work, to our valuable public service vehicles. The substandard width of our road risks accidents, impedes traffic flow, and exacerbates the wear on our vehicles. This concern becomes especially poignant at night, in bad weather, and for emergency vehicles that need to make urgent, unimpeded journeys.

It's time for our town to acknowledge this issue and take action. By upgrading our road to meet the standard width, the local government will help ensure the safety, efficiency, and longevity of our community's daily transit. It's not just a matter of convenience-it's a crucial step towards providing a safer and more comfortable environment for all road users in our area. Therefore, we urge the local authorities to upgrade our road to a standard, passable byway to protect and improve our community-based commuting. Sign this petition to demand a safer, wider, and better-maintained road for our community.
