Upgrade & expand Tulip St Jumps into MTB/BMX Bike Skills Park

Upgrade & expand Tulip St Jumps into MTB/BMX Bike Skills Park
The issue
THE PROBLEM : The Tulip St Jumps (located at the corner of Tulip St and Reserve Rd Cheltenham), is in dire need of investment from Bayside Council. The space is grossly under-utilised, but brims with the potential to become a innovative dedicated space for the Bayside community, if given the necessary improvements and expansions. This is not a new idea - council have been petitioned before, and yet they are not hearing their communities desire - so here we go again!
Many councils across Australia have been investing in biking infrastructure recognising its potential health and recreational benefits. Click here to see Nesbitt Skills Park and also the award winning Overport Jumps & pump track . It is high-time Bayside Council also prioritises this initiative. By upgrading and expanding the Tulip St jumps area into a bona fide MTB/BMX bike skills park, we can provide a safe and local space for our children and biking enthusiasts to train and develop their skills.
THE SOLUTION :
- Create sweeping loop ‘trails’ across and around the park area (absolutely no tree removal required)
- Install custom fabricated features : timber lips, rollers, tabletops and skinnys
- Remove/relocate the BBQ area and move the pedestrian path to the perimeter along Reserve Rd
- Make the current drop in larger & create a second drop in over the other side of the park area
- Install natural rock and garden features to blend with surroundings, and add hardy local indigenous planting
- Securely fence the perimeter of the pond for safety of kids, wildlife & birdlife
- Very minimal excavation/clearing or ground works, no concrete footprint, predominately crushed rock trails and jumps
Let's promote a physical activity among our youth, and give them the riding space & facility they deserve. Please sign our petition to show Bayside Council we need to upgrade and expand the Tulip St jumps area into a MTB/BMX bike skills park ASAP!
You are also strongly encouraged to 'Have your Say' about how the council will spend out money over the next 4 years - please fill out this survey! please mention space for MTB and bikes in your answers!
"We the undersigned hereby petition Bayside City Council to upgrade and expand the Tulip St jumps!"
