The Issue

The tragedy that befell our family is unimaginable. Six-year-old Liam Clowers, cherished by all who knew him, lost his life prematurely in a devastating accident in Nebraska City, NE. Despite the clear evidence of repetitive reckless behavior, the person responsible for this tragedy is facing only minimal consequences. The current charges do not reflect the severity of their actions.

The individual responsible was driving under the influence, committing their third offense related to DUI with drugs. This pattern of behavior shows a blatant disregard for the lives of others and for the law. It's shocking and unacceptable that the justice system has not taken stronger measures to upgrade the charges to reflect the gravity of upbringing a child's death.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly 28 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes every day—that's one person every 52 minutes. Such statistics only spotlight the necessity of ensuring that repeat offenders face serious consequences to deter them from putting more lives at risk.

Our family, and indeed the whole community in Nebraska City, has been left devastated and shaken. It's imperative to seek justice not only for Liam but also to protect other families from enduring similar heartache. The charge enhancements could serve as a real deterrent, delivering a powerful message that repeated DUI offenses will not be tolerated, especially when they lead to such tragic loss of life.

We urge prosecutors and local lawmakers to reevaluate and upgrade the charges against the perpetrator. It’s essential that the legal consequences match the tragedy of losing young Liam, offering our family some semblance of closure and ensuring no other family endures this pain.

Sign this petition to demand justice for Liam and to protect the community from repeating such an irreversible tragedy. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that justice is served.
