Upgrade Bluewell's outdated utility infrastructure
The Issue
I have been a resident of Bluewell and Mercer County, WV for most of my life, and I run an animal sanctuary that is vital to addressing the overpopulation problem in our area. The animals under my care, like many residents, cannot go without essential utilities such as water, electricity, and communication services, especially during extreme weather conditions. These losses could be life-threatening for animals, children, and the elderly who have no option to escape a dangerous situation.
For several years, Bluewell, WV, has increasingly become a central hub and cash cow for Mercer County.
However, despite the revenue generated, our utilities—water, drainage, electricity, and phone services—have not been updated to meet current demands. This neglect has led to frequent outages and delays in response times, as there are insufficient local resources to repair problems promptly.
Bluewell deserves better and our tax-paying residents should not have to endure outdated infrastructure that falls short of accommodating our needs. We need our local leaders to proactively develop a comprehensive plan ensuring that essential services are reliable and capable of supporting all residents and tourism.
Statistically, 87% of residents have experienced multiple outages in the past year, affecting their daily lives and wellbeing. The current state of disrepair cannot support the community’s growth or well-being. By investing in upgrading our infrastructure, we can enhance the quality of life for everyone in Bluewell and safeguard our most vulnerable populations.
I urge Mercer County leaders to prioritize the modernization of Bluewell’s utility infrastructure. Let’s work together to create a thriving and resilient community equipped for the realities of today and the challenges of tomorrow. Please sign this petition to demand action and future-proof Bluewell for the benefit of all its residents.
If you live in Bluewell or the surrounding areas I encourage you to sign and share experiences that will be presented to our county leaders show support for our area its time for change!
