UPDATE! Release terminally ill Jason Allison to die with family
The Issue
UPDATE
Jason was sentenced to 2 years idoc, since being transferred he has filed 2 of the Joe Coleman Medical Release paperwork as well as myself on on his behalf. While in receiving he was transferred to an outside hospital where he iis still being kept. Please keep sharing, he qualifies for the Joe Coleman Medical Act but takes up to 90 days (that he may not have) for the PRB to make their Decision. Hes almost hime just gotta get through the remaining process and could use as much support to help push this. Thank you for all that have signed already!
March of this year, Jason Allison was arrested, and since then, his time has been marked by an unbearable battle against pancreatic cancer. Jason’s hospice team has given him a devastating prognosis — merely two weeks to live. Despite this grim outlook, numerous motions for his compassionate release have been denied by the court.
Jason is not a threat or danger to society. He wishes only to spend his final days surrounded by his loved ones at home in Marshall, IL, where he can pass on with the dignity and peace every human deserves. Yet, the legal system continues to show a lack of compassion and humane decency in his case. As it stands, Jason is due to stand trial in the second week of June, a timeline in direct contrast with his rapidly declining health and life expectancy.
Pancreatic cancer is notably aggressive, with a five-year survival rate of only 10% on average, according to the American Cancer Society. Jason's form of cancer offers an even more harrowing timeline. Allowing him to see his life end behind bars, away from the comfort and support of his family, is inhumane. Many jurisdictions in the U.S. have recognized the importance of compassionate release, especially for terminally ill inmates who pose no risk to society, as a fundamental aspect of a just and moral criminal justice system.
This petition urges the Marshall, IL court system to reconsider their decision and grant Jason Allison the opportunity to spend his remaining days in the care of those he loves, outside the confines of a cold jail cell. Compassion in our legal system is a reflection of our humanity.
Please sign this petition to advocate for Jason's release so that he can find peace in his final moments, where his full dignity as a human being can be restored.
