With passion in our hearts and a love for platypuses, we bring forward this petition. As local community members of Nevin Platt Middle School in Colorado, USA, we have a fond affinity for the charming uniqueness of the platypus. Our love for this unusual creature goes beyond words. It's time for our beloved mascot to reflect our distinctive character too.

Currently, our school's mascot does not symbolically capture the unique mix of qualities that define us--creativity, adaptability, and resilience. However, the platypus, a mammal that both lays eggs and produces milk, embodies these characteristics perfectly. They are one of the few mammals in the world known to have this unique trait (source: National Geographic).

Moreover, having a platypus as our mascot would create an opportunity for artistic interpretation, teaching us to recognize and celebrate difference and diversity in all its forms. It would also enable our school to stand out in Colorado, which currently does not have any school with a platypus as a mascot (source: Colorado Department of Education).
