Update Australia's Calendar Dates

The issue

Australia Should have these dates added to the calendar and changed to the appropriate date and names.

•26th January Should be an Observation Day rather than a Public Holiday and observed as the "First Fleet of Australia", on this day we educate our children on what happened and what it represents to our native community and the affects their people have endured and the effects it has on us today within the communities, this is now a healing country.

(The fact it wasn't even called Australia during the time of the first fleet makes it historically incorrect)

• 1st May Should Be another Observation Day on behalf of the Aboriginal warrior Pemulwuy, who began to fight back on Captain Arthur Phillips and his colony. Which could be known as "Pemulwuy Day".

• 1st January Is when all states merged naming the country Australia, the day Australia was truly born. This should be another Observation Day, acknowledging the signing of the states.

(1 January 1901 a federal government made up of the six states in the Commonwealth of Australia was created, all overseen by a governor-general as representative of the monarch. Making this the historically accurate date of Australia being named and made into the country it is and not separated by state governments like it was before.)

(Names and dates should be changed and added for the right reasons, give our country and the natives the proper respect and historical recognition they deserve)

Did you know?

Convicts were transported to Australia because America was no longer an option. Parliament passed the 'Transportation Act' in 1718 and between then and 1775, some 49,000 convicts were removed to the American colonies. Australia only received around 29,500 between 1787 and 1820.

How old is the calendar we use?

Over 443 years old!

On 29 September 1582, Pope Gregory XIII introduce the Gregorian calendar as a refinement of the older Julian calendar, which dates back even further, causing dates and events to change and such as new years days was actually celebrated on 25th March. After the induction of the Gregorian calendar, the dates changed in accordance with Janus being the god of beginnings therefore making him the beginning of every New Year.

The point is, the calendars have been changing throughout history as we have changed history, its time we continue to change for the better and not for the worse.
