I have lived on the streets, experienced the sting of homelessness, and the feeling of being unwanted - a feeling no one should have to endure. Yet, this experience is a reality for an increasing number of Californians under Governor Gavin Newsom's leadership. Through legislations that have proven detrimental to our homeless community members, Gov. Newsom has exhibited a severe lack of understanding and empathy towards individuals who are unhoused. California, under his authority, has the largest population of homeless people in the United States, with a whopping 151,278 individuals in 2020 - an over 6.8% increase from 2019 [US Interagency Council on Homelessness]. The current policies of criminalizing poverty, offering inadequate support systems, and lacking real, long-term housing solutions are clearly failing us, causing suffering for thousands of Californians. It is time to call for action. We are asking for the removal of Governor Newsom from his position, to pave way for leadership that demonstrates effective strategies, respects human rights, and cares for all Californians, regardless of housing status.
