The Issue

We need this petition because it turns our daily frustration into a clear, public demand for action that decision‑makers cannot ignore. Right now, the unnecessary carbon emissions and air pollution from traffic on Sports Lane Road are treated as “normal,” even though research shows that traffic near schools can seriously harm children’s lungs, increase the risk of asthma, and even affect concentration and learning in class. It is not acceptable that simply arriving at or leaving school exposes students to air that is more polluted than it should be, especially when this pollution comes from vehicles idling and blocking a narrow road for no good reason.

In a city like Delhi, where air quality is already a huge problem, this matters even more. We have seen primary and other schools shut and classes moved online because air pollution reached hazardous levels, showing how serious the situation already is for children here. Allowing an avoidable pollution hotspot right at the gate of our school adds to this wider crisis and sends the wrong message—that children’s health and clean air are not a priority. By reducing congestion and unnecessary idling on Sports Lane Road, we can at least make sure that our school environment is part of the solution, not part of the problem.

By signing this petition, our community is speaking with one strong voice to ask the school management, local traffic police, and municipal authorities to take concrete steps: improve traffic flow, enforce no‑idling and no‑parking zones, and redesign the school street so that walking and cycling are safer and more attractive than sitting in a car in a traffic jam. These are realistic, practical changes that other school areas have already used to cut traffic‑related pollution and protect students’ health. When authorities see that many parents, students, teachers, and neighbours are united behind the same request, it becomes much harder to delay action or pretend that this is a minor issue.

Online petitions like this one have already been shown to be a powerful way to raise awareness about environmental problems, build empathy, and push leaders to respond. Every signature on this petition adds pressure on the authorities to act, helps protect our health and climate, and sends a strong message that we refuse to accept unnecessary pollution as the price of coming to school each day. By supporting this petition, you are not only helping to fix a dangerous situation on one road—you are also standing up for cleaner air, safer school streets, and a better future for children in our city.
