Unlocking New Storytelling Horizons: Game Writing Tools for Celtx

Unlocking New Storytelling Horizons: Game Writing Tools for Celtx
The Issue
Subject: Request for Dedicated Video Game Scripting Tools in Celtx
To the Celtx Team,
We, the undersigned writers, developers, and fans of interactive storytelling, are writing to respectfully request that Celtx expand its offerings to include a dedicated scripting tool for video game narratives and interactive media.
Celtx has long distinguished itself as a platform that democratized the craft of screenwriting, making professional-grade tools available to those who could never afford the industry’s traditional gatekeepers. In doing so, you built software that empowered a generation of storytellers. Now, as the storytelling landscape evolves, we believe there is a rare and urgent opportunity for Celtx to do it again -- this time, for video game writers.
Narrative-driven games have exploded in both popularity and critical acclaim. From AAA titles to indie passion projects, writers are crafting branching dialogue, nonlinear stories, and immersive emotional arcs, yet the tools available to them remain fragmented, underdeveloped, or prohibitively expensive. We feel that Celtx, with its clean interface, collaborative design, and emphasis on structure, is perfectly positioned to fill this gap.
To put it plainly: the video game industry is no longer a niche. In 2023, it generated over $184 billion globally according to Newzoo’s Global Games Market Report, far outpacing the global box office, which reached approximately $33 billion (Statista, 2023), and even surpassing the combined revenues of the film and TV industries in many markets. Demand for skilled narrative designers, interactive writers, and immersive storytelling is accelerating across platforms, from mobile to AAA to VR/AR. This is not a trend, it’s the future of storytelling.
We propose that Celtx introduce a dedicated “Video Game Script” or “Interactive Narrative” project type that includes:
Visual dialogue tree mapping and branching logic
Support for nonlinear scripting, character states, and conditional outcomes
Export options to common narrative scripting formats (e.g., JSON, Ink, Yarn, Twine-compatible)
Integration with existing Celtx tools like collaboration, notes, asset linking, and versioning
Other tools, like Twine, Ink, and Articy:Draft have shown there’s serious demand for this kind of support. But none offer the accessibility, UX clarity, or creative community Celtx has cultivated.
We understand that development priorities are carefully weighed, but this is more than a feature request. It’s a chance for Celtx to once again break from the pack and define what storytelling software can look like for the next generation of creators.
Thank you for your time, your innovation, and your continued support of writers everywhere. We look forward to seeing where Celtx goes next, and we hope video games are part of that future.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
