BRING BACK THE FURNITURE DISPLAY IN PALMERS GREEN!
The Issue
ENFIELD COUNCIL CRIMINALLY PROSECUTE LOCAL CHARITY SHOP
Give a Dog a Bone based on Green Lanes Enfield, has been forced to cease trade from its own private land.
Bullying & corruption is deeply entrenched within a Labour-led Enfield Council who continue to prosecute a local charity shop for displaying wares on the pavement.
A record number of empty shops in Enfield Town & Palmers Green highlight the growing problem of an uncontrollable Council using its powers for prejudice without regard to public interest.
Many business leaving the area are citing extortionate business rates, unjustified byelaws and overzealous council officers as being the main causes as local traders, other than café owners and green grocers, are severely prejudiced by Enfield Council’s Street Trading Resolution 2008 http://governance.enfield.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=108&MId=5534&Ver=4
Over the years Give a Dog a Bone has pleaded for meetings with Council Officials, MP’s and Councillors in order to discuss the ongoing bullying culture and associated practices within LBE’s Environmental department.
Give a Dog a Bone, is a locally-born recycling charity that provide free collection services to the residents of North London, Hertfordshire & Essex.
The Palmers Green branch of the discount furniture outlet has been serving low-income residents of Enfield for nearly 5 years despite consecutive prosecutions by Enfield Council’s Environment Department since 2016.
Ignoring the official land registry title the Council maintain that items displayed by the charity on the adjacent pavement pose an immediate risk of danger to “public highway” users of high street users in Green Lanes N13.
The charity fought back in 2017 against claims of Illegal Street Trading and obstructing the public highway on the grounds that the Council paved the private land unlawfully as required statutory evidence, s.228 of the Highways Act 1980 could not be provided by Council officials. As a result the land remains registered to the land owner on the land registry title plan. Despite the evidence Senior Council staff refuse to aknowledge the official title plans and are continuing with 18 counts of criminal charges against the organization, trial listed at Highbury Magistrates Court on 29th July 2019.
The organization is asking supporters of the cause to turn up in order to demonstrate solidarity in the face of a Council that has been getting away with no accountability to its residents for far too long.

This is their standard email signature...”Enfield Council is committed to serving the whole borough fairly, delivering excellent services and building strong communities”
The Many Benefits that Give a Dog a Bone bring to the local community...
Since opening in 2014 our charitable model has recycled over 10,000 tonnes of reusable items back into the community, instead of them going straight to landfill. We work every day with our community to address wealth disparity and encourage regeneration by helping women and men back into work.
The Environmental Department at Enfield Council have refused to aknowledge the recycling benefits and good work we achieve within the community.
The only correspondence we have ever received has been from your environmental department;
- Your department has reported us to DTS on several occasions. All investigations have been closed.
- Fined for Obstruction of the Public Highway
- Prosecuted for Obstruction of the Public Highway 2019 (Trial at Highbury Mags 29th July 2019)
- Prosecuted for Illegal Street Trading (Trial at High Mags September 2017)
- Further notice received of intention to prosecute the landlord at 446 green lanes for the display of planters which mark the boundaries of his land.
I am not surprised that there is a record number of empty shops in Enfield Town and Palmers Green.
