USG: Bring Back the Alternative Educational Arrangement
USG: Bring Back the Alternative Educational Arrangement
To the University System of Georgia: We are pleading with you to reinstate the Alternative Educational Arrangement for everyone affected by the Covid-19 Delta variant crisis.
Since August 2021, we have seen Coronavirus cases spiking due to a lack of a mask mandate or a vaccine mandate in our State. In our universities, we also have a lack of a mask or vaccine mandate. We understand that your Board of Reagents came to the decision to allow the Alternative Educational Arrangement to expire on June 30th, 2021. However, since then, cases in our State have skyrocketed and are out of control. Despite this, we continue to place students into classrooms without social distancing and praying that they do the right thing and mask up as well as take the vaccine. However, with the current number of cases we are seeing right now, it is clear to us in the student body that many Georgians are not doing what is required to keep others safe.
Furthermore, there are many people among the student body that suffer from chronic conditions and/or are immunocompromised. These students may even live with someone else who has those conditions as well. It is because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic that we feel it is in the student body's best interest to reinstate the Alternative Educational Arrangement. This is to provide many affected students with the ability to receive a higher education while remaining safe at home through online learning. The student body of Georgia should NOT have to choose between their health and safety and receiving an education through your participating Universities.
