Why this petition matters
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer Activity Center is an extremely popular location for students to spend their time improving their abilities in a sport, optimizing their strength/physique, and connecting with peers through activity. With that being said, there is a current issue that makes this environment less enjoyable.
The dress code at the PAC is uptight and outrageous. This is a college environment with legal adults that pay to utilize and give proper function to these facilities. This is not a high school, this is a college gym. The gym is a place for expression to feel confident in your body, and even show off what you’ve worked hard for! Clothing that covers multiple parts of the body is extremely uncomfortable in this setting.
Cut-offs, tank tops, sports bras, spandex, and any other upper leg, lower stomach, shoulder, or back revealing clothing should not be deemed inappropriate. Commercial gyms and larger schools such as the University of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois (just to name a few) do not enforce unnecessary clothing restrictions.
With such a prime location for student interaction and expression, there should be much more freedom to chose how we would like to dress in the PAC.
