Protect Victims of Sexual Assault or Stop Using my Name!

The Issue

Sexual assault is a devastating crime damaging a victim both physically or mentally for life.  This victimization can have damaging implications for not only the victim, but other important people in their lives and has all too often been swept under the rug and disregarded by those in positions of power.

The University of Rochester is currently under investigation by the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights for allegations of discrimination against a female student after she reported a sexual assault.

An article on the incident can be read here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/06/21/university-of-rochester-investigation_n_7623774.html

Not only did the university blame the victim for being raped, but when the victim had a panic attack she was physically subdued by university security (which exacerbated her mental anguish initially caused by the sexual assault) and sent to a mental hospital for evaluation.

The hospital's evaluation: "there's nothing wrong with you,".  Nothing wrong of course except the victimization she felt at the hands of her rapist and the RE-VICTIMIZATION she felt at the hands of the University that should of had policies in place to protect her.

MY CAUSE IS SIMPLE:

I am calling on the University of Rochester to either set up policies and procedures to protect victims of sexual assault (including removing those from positions of power who fail to enforce these policies)

And if they do not, or will not, I call on them to remove my name - Susan B. Anthony from all programs, departments or curricula.  This University in its current state does not have a reputation worthy of my legacy and should be ashamed of using my name for prestige and to enrich its own coffers.

Please share with everyone you know.  Let our voices be heard.  No one should be victimized by the people who are supposed to protect them from harm.
