We want the University of Redlands to be recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution

The Issue

Throughout the years, the University of Redlands has increased their Hispanic/Latinx student population, but has not gone through the process of applying to become a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). According to the U.S. Department of Education, in order for an institution to become an HSI and receive Title V funding, they must have at least 25% Hispanic undergraduate students enrolled at a full-time status. As Latinx students, we are asking the University of Redlands to apply and properly serve the 35% of Hispanic Students at their campus regardless if they are full-time or part-time students. As a campus that is trying to promote diversity and inclusion, they are not doing their job and are leaving resources behind. The University of Redlands is part of the Inland Empire where more than 50% of its residents are Hispanic. The university is doing a disservice to its residents by not claiming their pride in serving Hispanic/Latinx students. All other institutions in the Inland Empire are proud to be an HSI, but Redlands seems to just want our students to enroll without providing a welcoming space for them.
