The Issue

I am a second-year architecture student, and I'm in shock and disbelief as I've found out that my university, without the student knowledge, started removing our creative resources/support services and REPLACING THEM WITH AI. CCI students depend on these creative support services to learn and produce work for our course. I cannot express how crucial these services are in relation to our learning and our courses.

The Dean of the University has expressly asked this matter NOT to be discussed with students under the pretence of 'not adding any extra stress to students'...I hope the blatant Irony of this request is obvious. Alongside this, staff that are discussing this with students are being actively disciplined!

For clarity the CCI (Creative Cultural Industries) Support services, which include Creative Skills and Digital Studios, are invaluable when it comes to all practical aspects of Creative Studies, from directly tutoring students through challenging and complex software to Large format printing that is necessary in many CCI courses. Removing these services for students is equivalent to removing wheels off a race car and still expecting  students to participate fairly in that race.

Universities have a responsibility to prepare students for the future, and part of that preparation is maintaining transparency. The abrupt transition to AI without involving the student body raises serious ethical concerns. How are we to be trained to become future leaders in our fields if the skills and experiences essential to our development are suddenly stripped away?

Moreover, removing these creative tools not only diminishes the quality of our education but also impacts students' experience. It brings into question, where is our money going, if not into support services and help provided from experienced individuals? I did not sign up to University to get an AI degree.

Not to mention the valuable Creative staff that are being removed and made redundant without being included in these decisions!

We propose that the university openly discusses any changes to educational resources with the student body directly and reverse any decision they have currently made privately while excluding students and Employees who would be directly effected . A compromise might be maintaining a balance by integrating AI tools alongside traditional ones, rather than a complete replacement.

Please join me in urging our university to halt the removal of our creative resources and engage transparently with students. It worries me to think what decisions are being made behind the scenes at other Universities regarding AI. These decisions are made with a clear disregard for students.

By signing this petition you help to prevent forced integration of AI.
