#SaferForbesNOW. Not one more. Create safe spaces to bike in Oakland.

The Issue

Together we've garnered a successful petition, but creating true change will take much more. Sign onto "Action for Safe Fifth/Forbes" to see this battle through: http://bit.ly/1kb6UAw

To win this struggle, we need an army of people to take action: write letters, attend meetings, organize rallies. Join the Action for a Safe Fifth/Forbes coalition to see this through to victory. We need you now. Sign on here: http://bit.ly/1kb6UAw

BikePGH will take these 2,500 signatures to Mayor Peduto, PennDOT, and the University of Pittsburgh, and call for them to work together with Oakland stakeholders and create a safer Fifth/Forbes Corridor for all who use it.

We will send updates to our Action for a Safe Fifth/Forbes coalition with next steps. Sign on here: http://bit.ly/1kb6UAw

I am proudly working with Bike Pittsburgh at bikepgh.org to make this happen.

There is an urgent need for safe spaces to bike in Oakland

Pitt’s campus and the surrounding area are deadly for cyclists.

Unfortunately we had to deal with the reality of this situation on Friday, October 23, when Susan Hicks was killed by a driver at the corner of Forbes and Bellefield. Susan was the Assistant director of the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Russian and East European Studies. She was a beacon of hope and enthusiasm for her students, colleagues and peers.  Her loss has ripped through Pitt’s campus, Pittsburgh’s community of bicyclists, and though the hearts of the many people who loved her.

We are asking PennDOT, the University of Pittsburgh and the City of Pittsburgh to coordinate efforts and provide a safe space for people to bike in Oakland.

The solution is simple. The time is now. Let’s end the tragedies. Add safe space for people to bike the Fifth/Forbes corridor in Oakland.

#SaferForbesNOW

Congratulations. Together we brought together 2,500 voices to demand a safer Fifth/Forbes Corridor.

However, this battle is far from over.
