Oxford, fix your WiFi!

Oxford, fix your WiFi!
The Issue
I’m sure that many of you have been struggling with the WiFi (eduroam, Bodelian-Libraries WiFi and OWL). The WiFi has been problematic in certain colleges and in the Bod / Rad Cam. I had a word with the librarians today who told me that their supervisor has been asked to ‘collect evidence’ of the issue, so that the Uni-wide IT team get an idea of the scale of this issue and take it seriously. (Fixing the WiFi costs a lot of money and in order for the IT team to spend it / get the funding to do so, there needs to be evidence of there being a problem in the first place.)
Currently, the way that the library is collecting ‘evidence’ is through the use of paper ‘WiFi Issues: Report forms’ …. which we’re all meant to fill out and give to the librarians. I don’t know about you but I didn’t know that these exist, and when I found out about them it still took my lazy ass three months of silent seething and toe-curling in the Rad Cam before I actually bothered to fill one out. I’m assuming that there are a couple more silent sufferers out there that haven’t filled out a paper form. If so, sign this petition.
Sign this petition if you agree with one of the following :
- You have consistently experienced eduroam, Bodelian-Libraries and OWL being a huge pain.
- You’ve angrily stormed out of one of the Bod libraries (or your college) in search of better WiFi (overpriced coffee shop, anyone?).
- You’ve spent more than an hour of your working day waiting for web pages to load.
- You’d like the University to prioritise providing a stable internet connection in more than 2 of its 28 Bodleian Libraries.
- You would like to emphasise that WiFi connection should be a top priority, especially given that uni life is relying ever more on the internet and online learning experiences.
Thanks. If we get enough signatures we may be able to provide the uni with enough evidence to prioritise this issue and justify the cost of fixing the issue.
