The junction between Station Road and Melton Road, close to the Sutton Bonington Campus (University of Nottingham) is dangerous and we are seeing an increase, in incidents, with virtually a weekly serious accident. Cyclists, cars, pedestrians, have been and are still currently at risk of serious injuries. This junction appears to be a hazard at any  time of the day or night and is regularly used by local villages, staff and  students of the Campus who both walk, cycle or drive to and from Kegworth and the surrounding areas. There have been 3 collisions alone in the past 3 weeks. The problem appears to be cars coming from Station Road and Melton Road approaches, where drivers don’t see the current Junction signage, and drive straight across, causing collision with traffic approaching on College Road from either Kingston or Sutton Bonington directions. The cars do not have to be breaking speed limits to cause serious collisions. There have been cases where cars have been catapulted onto pedestrian areas, therefore also putting, not just drivers and cyclists, but walkers at risk. We simply cannot keep waiting for something to be done….how many more serious injuries or fatalities do we have to witness before the Borough or County Council take action?

There is huge concern from local villages, commuters and students about this hazardous cross-roads. Before any more serious accidents or fatalities occur, we ask that measure are put in place as a matter of urgency to reduce or prevent the dangers that this cross-roads currently presents to our local community.
