Amy Schlag is a professor at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington as well as the head of the LGBTQIA+ office here as well. Recently, she has been forced to resign by the university because of baseless, hateful claims made against her by another professor named Mike Adams. He's made unbelievably homophobic claims against her and her wife, such as:

"Abortion is a fundamental right. Especially if you're a lesbian. If you don't believe me then just ask Amy Schlag and Katie Peel. They are the "married" couple that controls forty percent of UNCW's five-office diversity industrial complex. Amy (the husband) runs the LGBTQIA Office. Katie (the wife) runs the Women's Resource Center." 

"I am writing today to ask you to fire an emotionally volatile and ideologically bigoted administrator who is about to get you sued. Since you are only an interim chancellor and will soon be leaving you will not have to deal with the political fallout for firing this woman who happens to be a lesbian activist. But fire her you must."
“Are you concerned that the last name of the Program Advisor for the new UNCW LGBTQIA Office will be deemed highly offensive to some “Gs” - and perhaps mildly offensive to some “Qs” – assuming they also like “questioning” authority? After all, a few years ago, a local teacher got into trouble because she used the term “niggardly,” which sounds like an offensive epithet. Aren’t you worried that the name “Schlag” will raise a red flag – as opposed to a rainbow flag – because it sounds like the word “fag”?” 

"Unfortunately, virtually all of the other lesbian activists on our campus are as close-minded and intolerant as Amy Schlag.” 

After excessive and constant harassment and threats to sue from Mike Adams, Amy was forced to resign from her position at UNCW as it was easier for the university to fire a gay professor than try and protect her from a rich, tenured professor.

We will not let this happen.

If you are disgusted with the way administration allowed this vicious and disgusting act of blatant homophobia take place, I encourage you to sign this petition. Do not allow UNCW administration to continue to drown out the voices of its minority students. We demand answers. We deserve to know why, despite this being a direct violation of the university harassment policy, it is not being explored further because it's a gay woman.
