College Republicans is working with Young America’s Foundation to bring conservative political commentator, Ben Shapiro to speak on campus and it’s going to cost $20,000. This foundation is already working with CR to provide another $20,000 to pay Shapiro. This money to fund him comes from our activity and service fee we pay every semester in our tuition.  Ben Shapiro is known for his homophobic, transphobic and Islamophobic speech. For a school that prides its self on diversity and inclusion, we can’t let our tuition dollars pay for him to come promote a book. While hate speech is free speech, it definitely does not provide any educational enrichment for our student body. In order to stop your dollars from going into Shapiro’s pocket, we need to let Student Government know that Shapiro goes against the values of UCF and that his hateful speech attacks a vast number of students that they represent. Last Senate meeting we won by ONE vote to not allow funding for Ben Shapiro, but now we need a super majority of Senators to vote against fiscal bill 52-60 in order to reject the funding.
