To whom it may concern:

This year there have been a record high number of students searching for apartments due to the covid restrictions easing and more students than ever returning to Ravenna to continue their studies or to start new studies. We are writing as a group of students who are desperately seeking a solution.

Dozens of students are coming to Ravenna and searching for apartment and not finding one, having to go home empty handed and at the same time needing to pay high fees for hotels for the time that they spend here to look.

Other students are stranded in other countries or places in Italy looking for apartments online and are deciding not to come to the campus because they can't find a house. This seriously hinders the campus environment since the point is to have an experience of living while studying and that all students can share in the student life here. While we appreciated the convenience of online classrooms, we also want it to be possible to live in Ravenna while studying! It's notable to mention that the competition for housing also affects the local community because even locals now can't find rental housing because of the sheer number of people looking.

The situation has become completely ridiculous and it is even affecting students' mental health to search for apartments day after day, week after week, without finding anything! Students should be concentrating on their studies and having experiences that will enrich and enhance their personal and professional lives, not searching for accommodation well into the semester. With the increased competition it is difficult for everyone but it is particularly difficult for male students, non-Europeans, and non-Italian speakers to find housing. As we are a co-ed campus with international students, we request your help in finding fair solutions for everyone.

We would like to issue a request in order to open up more affordable student housing spaces to accommodate the students arriving in Ravenna or to provide some other immediate solution. Please assist us. There must be a solution for Campus Ravenna students!
