No to UB's Lockdown Browser; Proper Sensitization is first needed!
No to UB's Lockdown Browser; Proper Sensitization is first needed!
The Issue
The students at the University of Belize are not against the due diligence as it relates to the academic honesty, the university is trying to safeguard with the implementation of the "lockdown browser".
The issue is the way in which it is being carried it out. It is becoming common practice for the University to prematurely implement new policies/procedures on their students within a running semester. This was the same case with the rollout of the online learning.
The rollout of the new browser is draconian since a policy of such significance, in the late stage of the semester, is infringing on the rights of students. We should be duly inform of all semester activities before the commencement of the semester.
We hereby make a petition to cease action on this undertaking until the below concerns are addressed.
- The University is responsible to give adequate information and sensitization of any new procedures relating to learning before the semester commences.
- Students have indicated that the new browser is causing their computers to stop working.
- Students are not able to access computer labs to complete assessments as promised by UB.
- Various parts of Belize are under effect by the floods and internet access is unstable.
- Students with poor internet access are the ones in the rural areas.
- In the midst of pandemic and national flood, it is difficult for students to access the various campuses to perform assessments.
