The Issue

Equality is undoubtedly the defining goal of communism. Communism is a political philosophy or ideology advocating holding the production of resources collectively. Throughout history, innumerable people have fought for equality and discrimination. People have strived for a more equal distribution of wealth and income within society.

However, no one has seriously considered the inequality in sciences. Sciences are intrinsically capitalistic in nature. Inequality is seen to its highest extent in the scientific community. Most scientific papers have an `author'. These authors then gain reputation and honors based on their `authority'. Only those bourgeoisie with a good track record is given jobs. It's this class, consisting of `authors', which owns most of society's scientific wealth and means of production. This is where the class conflict enters the discussion. Authorship is at the heart of inequality in sciences. Each stage of scientific development has been characterized by this form of class conflict, and it is only via the creation of a communist scientific society that this conflict can end. We must take a great leap forward to create a classless, authorless scientific society based upon communism. Crucially, the path towards scientific socialism is unavailable under a parliamentary system dominated by the vested interests of the ruling class consisting of `leaders' of research. Scientific production is primarily oriented to reputation accumulation i.e, scientific production is primarily oriented to reputation increasing rather than to the satisfaction of human needs. Some of the features of scientific research are the following,

  • The bulk of the research is privately owned and controlled by `authors'.
  • Authors own the reputation attached to `their' work.

  • Jobs and academic positions are obtained by only those with good reputations.

In contrast to standard scientific research, scientific communism can be defined as a type of scientific society in which, at a minimum, the bulk of research is under social, democratic control. The theoretical advantages of scientific communism are built around equality and strong social communities. A communist society would guarantee universal education with a focus on developing the proletariat with knowledge, class consciousness, and historical understanding. Scientific communism will support the emancipation of women and the ending of their exploitation. Our ideology emphasizes the development of a ``New community'', a class-conscious, knowledgeable, proletarian, devoted to work and scientific cohesion, as opposed to the antithetic ``bourgeois individualist'' associated with cultural backwardness and social atomization through the notion of authorship.

The beneficial ideas characteristic of communist scientific societies include,

  • People are equal.
  • Every citizen can keep a job. In a communist system, people are entitled to jobs. Because the scientific community owns all means of production, the community can provide jobs for at least a majority of the people.
  • Stability. the community dictates the structure; therefore, instability is out of the question. Every citizen is required to work in order to receive benefits and those who don’t have corresponding sanctions. This creates an incentive to participate and to encourage scientific growth.
  • Strong social communities are established. Through responsible allocation of resources, the abiding citizens share the same goal, this leads to a harmonious spirit of sharing one goal

  • Competition doesn’t exist. In communist scientific societies, everyone can work harmoniously without stepping on each other’s toes. Work, responsibility, and rewards are shared equally among the citizens. If people have no sense of envy, jealousy, or ambitions that counter the goals of the state, then harmonious scientific development can be maintained.

Let's build a scientific society without the notion of authors and authority. ✊
