Universities Australia & Unisuper: End the Super Discrimination
This petition had 625 supporters
The Higher Education sector in Australia has seen a massive growth in casualisation over the past two decades. Whilst there are many inferior conditions for insecure workers, one of the most obvious is the difference in superannuation contributions for insecure staff in higher education. These workers receive no loading at all for the difference in superannuation – receiving 9.25% compared to the 17% ongoing colleagues receive.
These staff are much more likely to be women and overwhelmingly younger than their ongoing colleagues. Like other insecure workers, their retirement is destined to be substantially poorer and reliant on government support. Having given years of committed service to educating and supporting students, they deserve better. Now is the time to end this super discrimination.
