PCH Fitness: Keep Large Group Lessons (Spinning, Bodypower, BBB, etc.)
The Issue
As frequent clients and users of the PCH Fitness location of the Universitair Sport Centrum Amsterdam, we collectively disagree with the decision of the new management to no longer offer group lessons (Spinning, Body Power, BBB, Pole Dancing Lessons, Boxing, Zumba, etc.)
We do so for the following reasons:
1. PCH Fitness owes its charms and practicality to the community which it has cultivated and embodied for years. Changing the multipurpose area to a weight lifting room will instantly fragment and split this community apart. Current members have already suggested going to other gyms, potentially harming the community and current client base of PCH Fitness.
2. The vast majority of the large group lessons currently offered at PCH Fitness are followed on a weekly basis. These attract dozens of both Dutch and international students. Its members were following these lessons based on professional relationships with the instructors; the vast majority of which will no longer be working at PCH Fitness.
3. The weight lifting area is currently large enough to accommodate the current needs, however needs refurbishment or new equipment. Rather than purchasing a wider variety of weights, the management should focus on offering higher quality equipment in the current spaces.
4. In order to generate a larger customer base, we believe that opening times should be expanded upon, rather than changing the existing facilities. Through an additional entrance, students or sporters could more frequently use the existing facilities after regular working hours, similarly to Amstel Campus, ClubWest, and Universum.
5. Members of the newly offered Boxing and Pole Dancing lessons have frequently inquired about additional intermediary classes; classes which the management has yet to offer. Therefore rather than eliminating these lessons, the management should meet the current demands for these existing sessions.
We therefore insist that the management of the USC (or PCH Fitness) changes the decision made to overhaul the multipurpose area; retaining PCH Fitness' community, while further expanding on its current services. This would entail the cancellation of small-group training classes, and expanding on the current large group class communities. This would retain PCH Fitness' client base, while providing growth opportunities in the long-run.
