Remaster Back to the Future Trilogy in 4K for Blu-Ray and DVD.

The Issue

This year is the 30th Anniversary of the Back to the Future Trilogy. With the new Blu-Ray set coming out soon, this would be the perfect timing to do a new 4K remastered transfer of all 3 groundbreaking films. The 25th Anniversary Trilogy Blu-Ray that came out in 2010 has the first film’s end credits distorted and the current transfers for all 3 movies suffer heavy use of Digital Noise Reduction (DNR) and edge enhancement.

All 3 films are classics and it’s time they got the proper remaster they deserve, with no digital manipulation (No DNR, EE, and contrast boosting). “Jaws”, “Apollo 13”, and “Spartacus” all got new, outstanding 4K transfers, so Universal should do the same for “Back to the Future” and its sequels. If Universal can do a new 4K scan from the original camera negative, the 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray release could be a huge improvement over the 2010 25th Anniversary Trilogy Blu-Ray. In fact, all 3 “Back to the Future” films could look a whole lot better. Combine the tremendously upgraded video quality with all existing bonus features (including the shot footage featuring Eric Stoltz) and the new ones created for the 30th Anniversary, and consumers get a worthy double-dip.

A DigiBook packaging (like “Jaws”, “Schindler’s List”, and “E.T.”), consisting of the 3 films on disc, along with the bonus 4th disc, original poster artwork, concept art, photos, and stills of famous scenes from all 3 movies would also be nice.

Summary:

·      New 4K transfers from the original camera negative for all 3 “Back to the Future” movies (without any digital noise reduction, edge enhancement, and contrast boost; also the first film’s end credits corrected)

·      New 7.1 DTS HD Master Audio mixes for all 3 films in English, Spanish, French, and German

·      All previously released bonus features and the new 30th Anniversary extra features

·      A nice Digibook including a lot of information about the trilogy, concept art, and high-quality film stills

To all the fans out there, if you want the Back to the Future trilogy to get a 4K-remastered edition that does justice to all 3 films, please sign.
