Petition title:UNITY,LOVE, RESPECT AND PROFOUND KNOWLEDGE FOR GENDER EQUALITY
Gender equality means that men and women have equal rights and responsibilities in the society they belong to. Gender equality is also about sharing responsibility for the development of all. If gender prevents us from seeing the weaknesses and strengths of each individual, it can be a reason to discriminate against each other. Women today in our country are participating in the political aspect, making decisions for the family and the community. But, those things are not enough or do not mean that women are equal to men. In 2010, Forbes Magazine released their “Most Powerful People in the World.” Of the 68 people already on the list, only 5 of them are women. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany; Sonia Gandhi, President of the Indian National Congress; Brazilian President Dilma Rouseff; US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey. Of the total 49% female population in the world, only five are considered empowered. Here in the Philippines, the participation of women in politics is only 19.97%. 2 women became the President of the country, 22 became senators and 6 of them are now in high government positions. More women are enrolled in elementary and secondary schools but still more men are able to work after graduating. Based on the Labor Force Survey or LFS, the labor force of women is only 49.3%. Many laws have been passed for women but the cases of violence against women are still increasing. There is the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act or R.A. no. 9261; Anti-Discrimination Against Women Act or R.A. no. 6725; Women in Development and Nation Building Act or R.A. no. 7192; Rape Victim Assistance and Protection Act or R.A. no. 8505; and Magna Carta for Women or R.A. no. 9710. Why does violence against women continue to increase? Any greatness of the intention of these laws for women is wasted due to the lack of proper implementation of them. It is necessary to ensure that the abtas that have been made for the welfare of women are implemented properly and correctly. Make sure those in charge think about reforming women's rights. We need to give women the opportunity to show their potential that will help the development of our country.
