REMOVE "RACE" CLASSIFICATION FROM OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS
To whom it may concern,
I have created this petition to remove the race classification from all legally binding documents in an effort to uplift our country from a systemic perpetuation of racial injustice. Throughout history, race classification has played a crucial role in an individual's ability to live freely as a human being (especially my personal race of African Americans or Black People). If you are not considered to be of the correct race and/or skin tone you are classified in a negative or derogatory light. You may be denied or discriminated against in regards to employment, housing, funding, government assistance, and much more. Not to mention profiled during judicial and/or criminal proceedings. In my personal opinion, the best way to eradicate this treatment is to remove the classification of an individual's race altogether. With time, individuals will be considered not by the color of their skin or the country of their origin, but TRULY by the content of their character and actions.
The 14th Amendment states the following: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
We all know for a fact that this is not taking place within our society in America, The United States. Everyone is fighting for equal rights. Everyone wants to be considered as a whole and capable person. Coming from a history where my ancestors were only considered to be a fraction of a human being based on the color of their skin and/or the pigment of melanin therein, I know firsthand that nothing we are currently doing to equalize race has fully solved the problem. I do not wish to curtail any other efforts being made in the name of equality, and only hope that my efforts will add a dash of clarity, truth, and perspective to the matter as a whole.
