While it may seem radical I believe it could change the landscape of the criminal justice system and America for the better. Lady Justice is an allegorical personification of the moral force in judicial systems. She is blindfolded- why? Because true justice is blind. It does not weigh race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation into the equation of justice. So why haven’t we adopted this way of thinking into our justice system. The Blind Justice Reform would be a vehicle that removes prejudice from all criminal court proceedings.

Proposal
Defendants, Victims, and Witnesses should have all information about their race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation redacted from all court proceedings to include but not limited to appeals, sentencing, trials, discovery, pretrial motions, and plea negotiations, arraignment, preliminary hearing, juries, even initial appearances.

Protection of the 6th & 14th Amendment defendant will still have the right to public speedy trial. This will be accomplished through keeping the defendant's identity protected through an enclosure outside of the courtroom and the defendant will provide typed responses to any cross examination to the jury/prosecution. For the sake of equity a private court stenographer will be used for all defendant testimonies removing any identifiable pronouns throughout the trial.

Defendants, victims, and witnesses should be able to make their statements and provide this information to legal representatives without ever revealing information about their racial, religious, or gender-based backgrounds.

Any prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, even officers of the law who try/found revealing this information intentionally or unintentionally will be punished by immediate removal from office/position and barred from reentry into any state/federal service within the justice system. This is due to the fact that they do not embody the aspects of integrity and competence to provide justice that our society needs.

This would mean that a standardized punishment would be given. Judges would sentence members based purely on facts of the crime without having any knowledge of their race, gender, religion, or sexual orientations. We may not be able to destroy prejudices from American society but we can remove it from our justice system on both the state and federal level. I Implore you to consider a radical reform of our justice system during these trying times. To create real lasting change we have to change the system. Let no righteous man be afraid of these changes because, when true justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous
