AquariumKids started this petition to United States Environmental Protection Agency and

6PPD—a toxic chemical found in tires—kills up to 90% of coho salmon in certain areas along the west coast of the United States.

As tire treads break down through use, 6PPD reacts with ozone to form 6PPD-quinone. This chemical ends up in urban rivers and streams through stormwater runoff and is deadly to the salmon that are migrating to reproduce. By signing this petition, you call on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to ban the use of 6PPD in tires to save the coho salmon.

Under the Endangered Species Act, the Central California Coast ESU is endangered while the Lower Columbia River, Oregon coast, Southern Oregon coast, and Northern California coast ESUs are threatened.
