Chemical Pesticides are used to increase food production, decrease the cost of food, and eliminate pest that harm crops and livestock on farms. Every year, America uses over one billion tons of pesticides. This amount of pesticides cost farmers 4.1 billion dollars annually. However, pesticides can be dangerous to the health of people and to the environment. Pesticides pollute the air we breath and even the water we drink. They have also caused a number of health problems, including neurologic and hormone system disorders, birth defects, cancer, and other diseases. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data show that a high percentage of individuals who are exposed to pesticides had certain pesticides or the chemical breakdown of those pesticides (metabolites) in their blood and/or urine. Every year, there are 3 million cases of pesticide poisoning and up to 220,000 deaths worldwide. Our goal is to eliminate these harmful pesticides farmers use and replace them with organic alternatives.
