When I see puppies in pet stores and puppy mills (puppy mill: a facility with over 100 (i think this should be a MUCH lower number!) dogs or breeding more than three unrelated breeds) it makes me SICK. How can anyone do this to a trusting, loving, loyal companion? I think people need to focus on banning sales of animals at pet stores. Without those sales outlets available, puppy mills will start to shut down as they will have no where to sell their animals. No puppy mill will let you on their property and I am a firm believer you should go see your puppy if your able to before you commit to it. And you should definitely visit your breeders home and see the dogs before taking yours home if you can. Let's ban puppy mills that can't possibly love, care for and nurture their dogs but let's also ban the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores, without the pet store there is no outlet for the puppy mill breeder. I am a small scale private breeder. I love my dogs. I know each of them by name. They live in my home and are spoiled. They sleep with me. When they have puppies, I sleep right next to mommy and babies for three weeks so I can help mommy and take care of any of the puppies immediate needs. These puppies are handled, loved and constantly played with as ALL dogs and puppies should be. I have a a huge one acre fenced in area the they get to go out and play in. My dogs are happy, healthy and constantly monitored by my vet, Dr Chad Ely. We are inspected by the ILDA & USDA. This is the ONLY way dogs and cats should be bred, raised and purchased. Let's stop the GREED!!!! The only reason pet store sales and puppy mills exist is GREED!!! If we can't ban the sales from pet stores, let's make it so they can only sell animals from the rescues, shelters or humane society. This will have a double impact, close down the animal mills and saving the animals at the rescues, shelters and humane society.
