The President of the United States is one of the most powerful political figures on Earth.

The President is commander-in-chief of the most powerful military on the planet, as well as being head of state and head of government of the only contemporary superpower.

As such, the citizens and/or residents of the United States have a right to know the financial dealings of the President, or the financial dealings of any candidate to that office.

This knowledge will guarantee the people of the United States that the President will work in their interest, and not in the interest of any other entity, industry, or nation.

To that end, the Congress of the United States should introduce and pass legislation that would require the sitting President of the United States, as well as any future candidates for the office of President or Vice President, to immediately release their complete federal and state tax returns covering a period of no less than the most recent ten years prior to holding or seeking the office of President or Vice President of the United States.
