Unite to Oppose Commercial Development Near Glen Lakes
The Issue
Residents of Glen Lakes, a serene and tightly-knit community in Cordova, Memphis, TN, are now facing an urgent threat to our neighborhood's peace and stability. A proposal has been submitted to change the zoning of land adjacent to our subdivision from Residential to Commercial. This change, if approved, is poised to dramatically and negatively alter the landscape of our beloved community.
Firstly, the shift in zoning threatens the drainage rights of Grey's Creek, which currently assists in managing water flow for Glen Lakes. Without proper consideration, this could increase the risk of significant flooding, endangering homes and creating additional challenges for homeowners who may not have resources to combat frequent water damage. Our community cannot afford such devastating environmental impacts.
Furthermore, the proposed development is likely to lead to increased traffic in the area. As a residential community, our roads were not designed to handle commercial traffic volumes. Increased vehicular traffic not only heightens the risk of accidents but also diminishes the quality of life that Glen Lakes residents currently enjoy, making it unsafe for children, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.
In addition to the logistical concerns, the construction and operation of commercial facilities would disrupt local wildlife habitats. This area of Cordova has long been a haven for various species, and disrupting the ecosystem could have irreversible effects on the native wildlife population.
Perhaps most distressing for current homeowners is the potential decline in property values. Transitioning to a commercial zone invariably impacts surrounding residences, often driving down property worth and altering the local real estate market. For many, our homes are not only a place of safety and comfort but also a significant financial investment.
Now more than ever, it is crucial for Glen Lakes residents to stand united in preserving the integrity and character of our neighborhood. By raising our collective voices against this zoning change, we can protect our community, ensuring it remains a vibrant and sustainable place for current and future residents.
Join us in our mission to keep Glen Lakes true to its roots as a peaceful residential area. Sign this petition to oppose the proposed commercial development near Glen Lakes subdivision and safeguard our neighborhood for generations to come. Together, our collective action can make a difference.
