I am writing this petition with a heavy heart because of what I've witnessed at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center's East Hospital. While the main Wexner Medical Center benefits from union protections, East Hospital tragically does not. This lack of union representation leaves us, the employees, vulnerable and undervalued, impacting both our work environment and patient care.

At East Hospital, employees face an uphill battle. Our seniority means little when incentives are the first to be slashed. We endure pay cuts, and yet when staffing reductions occur, it is us who bear the brunt. With sometimes more than six patients per nurse and a reduction in staffing, the quality of care we can offer is concerning. Our colleagues at the main Wexner Medical Center are shielded from these cuts due to union negotiations, but we at East are systematically excluded.

It's not just compensation and workload that hang in the balance. Every new trial and challenge falls first on our doorstep, often without the resources or support we desperately need. The lack of union representation has left East Hospital employees and our patients repeatedly shortchanged.

Unionizing is not just about fair compensation—it's about equity, respect, and the ability to negotiate for better working conditions, ensuring high-quality healthcare for all. By granting us union rights, the administration would acknowledge the hard work and dedication of East Hospital staff, aligning our conditions with those at Wexner Medical Center.

We urge the administration of Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and relevant stakeholders to listen to the voices of East Hospital employees and support our fight for union representation. By addressing this issue, East Hospital can ensure protective measures for employees that ultimately benefit our patients and the community at large.
