Cancel Fair & Lovely

Cancel Fair & Lovely
The Issue
For generations, Unilever has been selling Indians and the rest of South Asian countries a product called Fair & Lovely, a cream that promises to change a customer's skin tone in a matter of weeks. They claim that fair (i.e. white skin) is lovely. The advertisements (on TV, internet, Billboards, magazines, and newspapers) continuously perpetuate a racist claim that if you have a brown or darker skin tone, you are ugly, you will never marry the love of your life, you will never get that job promotion, and so on and so forth. While Fair & Lovely is mostly marketed to young girls and women, the company also sells Fair & Handsome as a counterpart product for young boys and men. This product and this company is responsible for perpetuating racism and colorism in the Indian subcontinent and beyond.
It's time we take action. Major Bollywood celebrities like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan and many others have yet to apologize to the public for endorsing these products. And we cannot wait for them anymore.
But we can stop this company from ruining another generation of kids and young people who are made to believe that fairly = lovely/handsome.
As a proud brown woman, who was born and raised in India, and lived most of her life believing I was ugly, I am starting this petition for Unilever to stop the production, marketing, advertising, and sale of Fair & Lovely and Fair & Handsome creams in every geographical market. Please support this petition.
