Release a Pi Emoji

Release a Pi Emoji
The Issue
Pi Day is March 14 (3.14) and quickly approaching. Originally widely celebrated by the math nerd community, Pi Day has become so big that it’s been formally recognized by the U.S. Congress in an effort to promote the importance of math and science education.
Like Congress, we agree that promoting math and science education is important. And we need the proper tools to express our feelings.
Have you noticed that there is no Pi emoji? The Unicode Consortium, the non-profit that regulates the coding standards for written computer text that includes emojis, is adding 37 new characters in 2015. Missing from their current and forthcoming list is Pi.
In the emoji keyboard, there are other math symbols, like those for arithmetic. And there are various circle emojis. But nothing to represent the ratio of their circumference to their diameter.
(We note that there is no pie, either. But we’ll work on that later.)
We find this irrational. And we’d like it fixed.
In honor of Pi Day—3.14.15—join us to petition Unicode Consortium to include Pi on their next round of released emojis.
Don’t make us settle for right angles. Give us the Pi we want… nay, we NEED.
Help us. Sign this petition. Let’s celebrate math and science by getting a Pi emoji.
Thanks for your support.
