Add an Asteroid Emoji to the Unicode Consortium
The Issue
We are calling on the Unicode Consortium to add an asteroid in the next version of Emoji.
Asteroids, along with comets, are direct remnants from the Solar System formation, 4.6 billion years ago. While these objects represent a unique opportunity to study the building blocks and mechanisms that led to the formation of planets, including Earth, they may also pose a future threat of colliding with Earth, with severe or even catastrophic consequences. In a bid to create awareness about the threat posed by these objects, the International Asteroid Day is observed every year on June 30.
Currently, Emoji features a comet, a rock, Milky Way, Jupiter, and several variations of the Moon, but no asteroids. It is time to bring the Asteroid to the Emoji family!
