The Issue
Sign this petition to introduce the glass of water emoji in the Unicode world standard. #glassofwater
Emojis are icons and smileys used worldwide in electronic messages and web pages. While it’s estimated that 55.5% of all web content is in English, a stunning 92% of the world’s online population use emojis. Here’s another statistic for you: 100% of the world’s population drinks water.
If this petition receives your support, and the Unicode organisation accepts it, large technology companies such as Apple, Google and Samsung will also adopt the new emoji.
Emojis are used on popular messaging apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, Viber, Telegram, with more than 5 billion emojis are sent daily on Facebook Messenger alone. That’s why it’s important to make sure the language of emoji is inclusive and representative.
Even though we could go on living without emojis and smartphones, we humans could not survive without water. It’s so much part of our existence that more than half of our bodies are comprised of water.
How surprising is it that water is not even represented as an option among the food and drink emojis? There are more than three thousand emojis in Unicode, the world standard for text and emoji, at least nine emojis to represent alcoholic drinks and not one to represent a glass of water.
NutriStandard is a London based start-up company that strives to inspire people to make healthier lifestyle choices, such as drinking the recommended daily quantity of water. We’ve built NutriStandard, the food & healthy living social network because we believe in the positive influence that friends can have on each other’s preferences and lifestyles. By encouraging your friends and family to drink more water, you support them in making healthier decisions. And what better way than through your daily chat and use of emojis.
Sign this petition to show your support. Please share it with your friends to raise awareness about the importance of proper hydration and the essential daily habit of drinking water.
